  What this day is

  Sarva Pitru Amavasya ends pitru paksha. It covers ancestors whose death tithi was forgotten, and it repeats the offering for everyone else. After today, the fortnight of shraddha is over and ordinary auspicious work may return, within the rest of the calendar.

  સર્વ પિતૃ અમાસ પિતૃ પક્ષ પૂરો કરે છે. જેમની મૃત્યુતિથિ ભૂલાઈ ગઈ હોય તેમને આવરી લે છે, અને બાકીના માટે અર્પણ ફરી કરે છે. આજ પછી શ્રાદ્ધનો પખવાડિયો પૂરો થાય અને સામાન્ય શુભ કામ, બાકીના પંચાંગની અંદર, પાછું આવી શકે.

  What to do

  • Offer water and black sesame for the people you can name, and once more for those you cannot.
  • Feed someone, or eat a plain meal as the family offering. Give a portion away the same day.
  • In the evening, a lamp. Tomorrow the house may feel ordinary again. That is correct.

  • જેમના નામ જાણો તેમના માટે, અને જેમના ન જાણો તેમના માટે એક વાર વધારે, જળ અને કાળા તલ ધરાવો.
  • કોઈને જમાડો, અથવા કુટુંબના અર્પણ તરીકે સાદું જમવાનું ખાઓ. એ જ દિવસે એક વાટકી આપી દો.
  • સાંજે દીવો. કાલે ઘર ફરી સામાન્ય લાગે. એ બરાબર છે.

  What to eat

  • The same plain meal as other shraddha days: rice, dal, one vegetable.
  • No festival menu.

  • બીજા શ્રાદ્ધના દિવસો જેવું સાદું જમવાનું: ભાત, દાળ, એક શાક.
  • તહેવારી મેનુ નહીં.

  What to skip

  • Do not cram a wedding consultation into the evening because the paksha is 'almost' over. Wait for tomorrow.
  • Do not skip this day because you already offered on a known tithi. The unknown ones are the point.

  • પક્ષ 'લગભગ' પૂરો થયો છે એમ કહીને સાંજે લગ્નની વાત ન ગોઠવો. કાલ સુધી રાહ જુઓ.
  • જાણીતી તિથિએ અર્પણ કરી દીધું છે એટલે આ દિવસ ન છોડો. અજાણ્યા પિતૃઓ જ અર્થ છે.
