What this day is
Tulsi Vivah is most often Kartak Shukla Dwadashi. The plant is the bride and Vishnu, as a shaligram or a picture, is the groom. Some families pick any day from Devutthana Ekadashi to Kartak full moon. A pot of tulsi on a balcony is a complete mandap.
તુલસી વિવાહ મોટે ભાગે કારતક સુદ બારસે થાય છે. છોડ વધુ છે અને વિષ્ણુ, શાલિગ્રામ કે ફોટા રૂપે, વર છે. કેટલાંક કુટુંબ દેવઉત્થાન એકાદશીથી કારતક પૂર્ણિમા સુધીનો કોઈ પણ દિવસ પસંદ કરે છે. બાલ્કનીમાં તુલસીનો કૂંડો પૂરો મંડપ છે.
What to do
- Water the plant in the morning. Tie a string or a small cloth around the pot as a wedding thread.
- Place a shaligram or a Krishna picture beside it. Light a lamp. Walk around the pot once, or seven times if you have the room.
- Offer sugarcane, rice, and a fruit. Then share the prasad.
- સવારે છોડને પાણી આપો. લગ્નના દોરા તરીકે કૂંડા પર દોરી કે નાનું કપડું બાંધો.
- બાજુમાં શાલિગ્રામ કે કૃષ્ણનો ફોટો મૂકો. દીવો કરો. જગ્યા હોય તો સાત વાર, નહીં તો એક વાર કૂંડાની પ્રદક્ષિણા કરો.
- શેરડી, ચોખા અને ફળ ધરાવો. પછી પ્રસાદ વહેંચો.
What to eat
- Seasonal fruit, kanji or a light sweet, and a vegetarian meal.
- Sugarcane is the festive chew of Kartak.
- ઋતુનું ફળ, કાંજી કે હલકી મીઠાઈ, અને શાકાહારી જમવાનું.
- શેરડી કારતકનું તહેવારી ચાવવાનું છે.
What to skip
- Do not perform this during Chaturmas, before Devutthana. Wait.
- Do not cut the tulsi plant down as part of the wedding. You are marrying it, not harvesting it.
- ચાતુર્માસમાં, દેવઉત્થાન પહેલાં, આ ન કરો. રાહ જુઓ.
- લગ્નના ભાગ રૂપે તુલસીનો છોડ ન કાપો. તમે તેના લગ્ન કરો છો, લણણી નહીં.
